Property dealer murdered outside gym, second firing in 24 hours in Chandigarh

Two major incidents of firing within the last 24 hours in Chandigarh, a city known for its peace and beauty, have exposed the police administration and security system. On Wednesday, a 31-year-old property dealer was killed by indiscriminate firing in broad daylight in a posh area of Sector-9. The deceased has been identified as Charanpreet, resident of Mullanpur. According to the police, it appears to be a case of a planned murder.

The incident took place when Charanpreet came out after finishing his workout in a gym located in Sector-9 and was driving his car to take it out. Then two masked attackers riding a motorcycle ambushed them. The attackers fearlessly fired about 11 rounds due to which the glass of Charanpreet’s car was shattered and he was hit by several bullets. He was immediately taken to the hospital in a bloody condition, where doctors declared him dead. The attackers managed to escape easily after committing the crime.

Initial police investigation revealed that the attackers were keeping an eye on Charanpreet’s movements. They knew when he usually left the gym. As soon as he reached his car, the attackers took the opportunity and opened fire. Sector 11 police station has registered a case of murder. The forensic team present at the spot collected the used cartridges and other important evidence from the car and surrounding area.

The cameras installed outside the gym and the CCTV footage installed on the road are being examined to identify the attackers. Police officials say that they are investigating from all angles including mutual enmity and business dispute. These incidents prove that the fear of law among criminals is ending.

Concern increased due to second firing in 24 hours

Surprisingly, just a few hours before this murder, bullets had been fired in the Punjab University (PU) campus, considered the safest in the city. There, four attackers who came riding on a scooter targeted a student leader. The attackers fired three rounds while chasing the student, however the student ran away and saved his life. Police believe that the incident that took place in the university could be the result of old enmity or student politics, but the firing twice in 24 hours has raised questions on the police’s Iqbal.
