Haryana Congress incharge Hariprasad says action will be taken against MLAs for cross voting in RS polls

New Delhi: Almost two days after the Congress secured a narrow win in Rajya Sabha election in Haryana despite cross voting by party MLAs, party state incharge BK Hariprasad said that it has informed the party’s disciplinary committee and shoe cause notice is being issued to all of them. He also said that the action will be taken against the MLAs who cross voted during Rajya Sabha polls.

Hariprasad had camped in Chandigarh during the Rajya Sabha elections on March 16 when four of the party’s MLAs votes were rejected while five MLAs had cross voted. The party managed to secure the victory by a margin of one vote.

The Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Karamveer Singh Boudh got 28 votes. Congress has a strength of 37 MLAs in the state.

Speaking to the media in the national capital on Thursday, Hariprasad named the MLAs who cross voted.

He said, “The MLAs who cross-voted in the Haryana Rajya Sabha elections are Shailly Chaudhary from Naraingarh, Mohammad Ilyas from Punhana, Mohammad Israil from Hathin, and Renu Bala from Sadhaura.”

He said, “The party has informed the disciplinary committee, and show-cause notices will be issued to all of them today.”

Hariprasad also clarified that the “party’s disciplinary committee will send its report to us, based on which AICC will act”.

“An action will certainly be taken against the MLAs who cross-voted,” he announced.

Following the cross voting by Congress MLAs in Haryana, the grand old party has been embroiled in a turmoil.

Amid the turmoil, one of the three acting presidents of the Haryana Congress, Ram Kishan Gujjar, resigned from party membership and relinquished all posts and responsibilities on Tuesday. His wife is also a Congress MLA in Haryana.

Several party MLAs have been accused of cross-voting. MLA Gokul Setia, who faced accusations of cross-voting, dismissed the allegations as fake news and staged a sit-in protest outside the Congress office in Chandigarh.

They demanded that the names of the five MLAs who betrayed the party be made public and appropriate action be taken against them. However, Bhupinder Singh Hooda persuaded Setia and Chaudhary, who were sitting on a sit-in protest, and gave them a clean chit.
