Conspiracy exposed by Russian intelligence, NIA arrested 7 foreigners
New Delhi: A recent international investigation case that has come to light in India has increased the concern of security agencies. The arrest of foreign nationals and alleged links to Myanmar have made this matter more sensitive. The matter has become even more serious with the involvement of names of many countries like Russia, Ukraine, America and India in this entire incident.
According to sources, Russian officials had shared some important information with Indian agencies. Based on this information, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took action and arrested six Ukrainian citizens and one American citizen. They are accused of training ethnic armed groups operating in Myanmar.
How did the accused reach India?
Investigation has revealed that all the accused had come to India at different times on tourist visas. After this he reached Guwahati and then went towards Mizoram without the necessary permits. It is alleged that from there he entered Myanmar illegally. Indian agencies are now trying to find out who helped these foreign nationals in their travel and whether other people are also involved in this network.
Suspicion of activities in Myanmar
The investigating agencies suspect that these people had made several visits to Myanmar since 2024. There they were supplying drones, jamming equipment and other technical resources. Besides, they were also training local armed groups in modern warfare techniques. It is being told that a total of 14 people were involved in this group, out of which seven have been arrested in India. The search for the remaining people is still going on.
Court appearance and custody
All the seven arrested accused were caught from the airports of Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata on March 13. After this he was produced in the court, from where he was sent to NIA custody till 27 March.
Ukraine and America’s reaction
Ukraine has demanded transparency in this matter. The ambassador there has said that the investigation against their citizens should be impartial and if necessary, Ukrainian experts should also be included. At the same time, the US Embassy has only said that they are aware of this matter, but they have refused to comment further on it.
Questions raised on legal process
According to sources, the Ukrainian side is concerned about whether their citizens were presented in court on time and whether they were informed of the charges in their language. Apart from this, questions are also being raised regarding interpreters and consular access.
NIA’s claim
The NIA has told the court that during interrogation the accused admitted that they had trained armed groups in Myanmar several times. Besides, they also smuggled drones and other equipment from Europe through India. However, no concrete evidence has been shared publicly yet in support of these allegations.
This case has also pointed towards a bigger network running through Mizoram. Earlier also the state government had said that a large number of foreign nationals came here and moved ahead without information. In such a situation, this matter is considered very important from the point of view of national security.
