‘Double blow’ to Congress in Assam: As soon as father Pradyut joined BJP, son Prateek returned the ticket, where is the problem?
Assam Politics: With the announcement of election dates, the phase of defection and dramatic developments has intensified in Assam politics. After veteran Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi joined BJP in Delhi on Wednesday, now his son Prateek Bordoloi has also taken a big step.
Prateek has refused to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Margherita seat on Congress ticket and has withdrawn his candidature. However, he has clarified that he will remain a member of the party, but in the current circumstances he does not find it appropriate to continue as a candidate.
Why did Pratik Bordoloi step back?
In a letter written to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Prateek Bordoloi has clarified his position. He said that following his father’s decision to join another party, it would not be morally right for him to continue in the fray as a Congress candidate from Margherita. Prateek believes that in this changed situation, standing in the election field may create confusion among the people and workers regarding his loyalty and position. He stressed that the people of Margherita and party workers deserve a candidate with complete clarity and confidence.
expressed dedication to the party
Interestingly, despite his father joining BJP, Prateek has reiterated his commitment to Congress. He said his faith in the ideals of the Congress is still unwavering and he will continue to work as an ordinary member of the party.
Prateek currently serves as the co-chairman of the social media department of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. He also wrote in his letter that whatever responsibility the party leadership assigns to him, he will fulfill it with full devotion. Earlier, APCC chief Gaurav Gogoi had also supported Prateek and said that the decision on his political future would be entirely his.
Himanta’s masterplan: Congress’s ‘assets’ The goal is to bring in BJP
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also made a sharp comment on this entire incident. He said that BJP’s aim is to bring into the party all those good leaders of Congress who are ‘assets’ are, ‘burden’ No. Sarma claimed that he has got 99 percent success in this initiative started in 2016 and considering the current ideology of Congress, no self-respecting person can live there. Congress has hit back and alleged that BJP does not have good leaders of its own, hence it is poaching leaders from other parties.

Father said- “My decision has no effect on my son”
While joining BJP, Pradyut Bordoloi had said that political decisions are taken independently in his family. He hoped that his decision would not have any impact on his son’s decisions. However, Prateek’s decision to withdraw his candidature has shown how important image and clarity are in public life. Now a new crisis has arisen in front of Congress on Margherita seat as to whom it will make its face just before the elections.
