‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ controversy: NCW action, summons to Nora Fatehi-Sanjay Dutt, song banned

Sarke Teri Chunar Sarke ControversyNational Commission for Women (NCW) recently released much talked about songs. ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ A big step has been taken regarding this. Actress Nora Fatehi and actor Sanjay Dutt are seen in this song. The Commission has started investigating this matter on its own, because many people say that the lyrics and video of this song are very obscene and indecent. These things can spread wrong messages in the society and are especially not good for women and children.

The Commission believes that the content of the song appears sexually provocative, objectionable and wrong. This may violate some rules of the Indian Judicial Code (New Criminal Law), Information Technology Act 2000 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) 2012. Hence NCW has issued summons to several people, asking them to appear before the Commission:

  • Nora Fatehi
  • Sanjay Dutt
  • Lyricist Raqib Alam
  • Producer Venkat K. Narayan (from KVN Group)
  • Director Kiran Kumar

All of them have to appear in the office of the National Commission for Women on March 24 at 12:30 pm. The Commission has also given a clear warning that if a person does not appear, he may have to face serious legal consequences.

Government also has strict stance on songs

The central government has also taken action amid this controversy. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, in response to a question in the Lok Sabha, clearly said that this song has been officially banned. He said, ‘The song has already been banned.’ He further stressed that freedom of expression is very important, but it cannot be unlimited. The framers of the Constitution have placed some reasonable restrictions on it, and we should follow them. The minister also said that freedom of expression should be in the context of society, culture and especially the safety of women and children. Freedom should be used along with responsibility in society.

Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had also issued a notice regarding the double meaning and objectionable lyrics of the song. Apart from this, Vineet Jindal, a lawyer and social activist, had filed a complaint with the cyber cell of Delhi Police. He alleged that the lyrics of the song are very obscene and it is not appropriate for them to be available to the public, especially on digital platforms. He had demanded strict legal action against the makers of the song. Now there was huge protest on social media regarding this song, many organizations and artists also called it wrong, and now many agencies have become active at the legal level. The song has now been removed from many platforms.
