Free cancer treatment for 98 year old woman! Big benefit of CM health scheme
**Punjab Government** has highlighted a success story under **Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana** (MMSY), in which a **98 year old woman** from Moga got completely cashless cancer treatment. This incident underlines the important role of the scheme in providing dignified and burden-free healthcare to vulnerable citizens.
**Mukhtiyar Kaur**, one of the oldest beneficiaries of the scheme, was treated with specialized chemotherapy and supportive care at an empaneled hospital. Verification of their ‘Sehat Card’ helped in starting treatment immediately, which included advanced medicines, monitoring and therapeutic interventions without any out-of-pocket costs. At such an advanced age, when financial constraints can often limit care, the plan ensured that medical needs were prioritized, reducing the burden on their families.
Health and Family Welfare Minister **Dr. Highlighting the impact of this initiative, Balbir Singh** said: “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, MMSY ensures that elderly patients receive timely care without any financial hardship, thereby maintaining their dignity and empowering families.”
Launched in January 2026, MMSY offers **cashless coverage up to ₹10 lakh per family per year** for secondary and tertiary treatments, including cancer care, cardiac procedures and more. It aims to ensure universal access to all residents of Punjab (approximately 65 lakh households, covering approximately 3 crore people) with no income limits—only Aadhaar and Voter ID are required for registration.
The scheme is integrated with **over 900 empaneled hospitals** (government and private) and supports **over 2,300 medical packages**. Recent reports suggest that **more than 9 lakh ‘Sehat Cards’** have been issued, and drives are underway to ensure complete coverage of the scheme through Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres. ₹2,000 crore was allocated to further strengthen this program in the Budget 2026-27.
This case is a great example of MMSY’s commitment towards accessible healthcare, especially for senior citizens and low-income groups. It reduces the financial stress arising from serious illnesses and promotes focused support for recovery, amid rising medical costs.
