New Delhi, March 19. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released the second list of 111 candidates for the West Bengal Assembly elections. With this, BJP has announced the names of 253 candidates. The names of 142 candidates were announced in the first list of the party. Voting for Bengal elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 4 along with Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Union Territory (UT) Puducherry.
Among the prominent candidates included in the second list of BJP, Rekha Patra has been fielded from Hingalganj seat while Nisith Pramanik will contest from Mathabhanga. Whereas, Shankar Adhikari has been declared candidate from Chopra, Kaustav Bagchi from Barrackpur, Arup Choudhary from Kamarhati, Rekha Patra from Hingalganj, Rupa Ganguly from Sonarpur South, Priyanka Tibrewal from Entley and Tapas Roy from Maniktala.

Shubhendu Adhikari started campaign in Bhawanipur
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari on Thursday launched the BJP’s election campaign from the much-discussed Bhawanipur assembly seat in South Kolkata. On this seat, he is competing with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He expressed confidence and said, ‘I will win by a margin of 25,000 votes. The public has shown today that there is no challenge here.
Said – I will defeat Mamata Banerjee by 25 thousand votes
BJP’s fire brand leader targeted Mamata Banerjee and said that the leader of infiltrators and corruption will have to be defeated. He also alleged that small shopkeepers have complained of harassment by the Chief Minister’s nephew. Shubhendu was referring to Trinamool’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
He said, ‘Small shopkeepers, drivers and common people have told me that they are fed up with the atrocities of Trinamool. On the auspicious occasion of the first day of Chaitra Navratri, I have started the election campaign with only one goal that Trinamool must be defeated.
Tension arising from crowd of supporters of both parties in Chakberia Road area
There was tension for some time due to the gathering of a huge crowd of supporters of both the parties in Chakberia Road area. BJP workers celebrated the arrival of Shubhendu. Whereas Trinamool supporters raised slogans like ‘Jai Bangla’ and ‘Mamata Banerjee Zindabad’. Kolkata Police personnel were deployed in large numbers. They were ready there to separate the supporters of both the parties and avert any untoward incident.
Shubhendu also went to Bhawanipur police station and alleged that BJP workers were receiving threats. He warned that he would stage a dharna if his rally was banned or party workers were harassed.
‘PM Modi has instructed me to contest elections from both the places’
When asked about his decision to contest from two seats, the BJP leader said, ‘Prime Minister Modi has instructed me to contest from both the seats. I will win from Nandigram by a huge margin and will defeat Mamata Banerjee here (Bhabanipur) also.
