Former Pakistan batsman got angry at PCB over the name of IPL, called PSL ‘retired cricket league’

New Delhi: Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026) is scheduled to start from March 26, while Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) will start from March 28. Comparisons always happen between the two leagues, but this time former Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has sharply criticized the PSL. He has raised questions on the quality of PCB and the league by calling PSL ‘Retired Cricketers’ League’ on his YouTube channel.

Superstars in IPL, retired players in PSL

Shehzad said that real superstar players play in IPL, who make the league competitive. Teams invest for years and build strong squads. Whereas in PSL, retired players and commentators become superstars. He said, "In PSL, for the last 3-4 years, retired players have been paid to become brand faces, but what have they created? This shows the real situation of the league."

This time, famous players like Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell will play in PSL, who were not selected in IPL. Shehzad says that such players come to PSL because they do not get a chance in IPL. This raises questions on the quality of the league.

Pakistan team’s performance also targeted

Shahzad also talked about the recent poor performance of Pakistan cricket team. Pakistan could not reach the semi-finals in T20 World Cup 2026. After this, there was a 1-2 defeat in the 3-match ODI series on the Bangladesh tour. He said that Pakistan has only 6-8 players, who are the faces of both PSL and the team. PCB supported him a lot, gave him captaincy, gave him sponsorship, but the results did not come.

Shahzad accused PCB of handing over cricket to these 6-8 players and their agents. Because of them the team is not able to win, rather the focus is on party and earning money. He asked, "Will these players be able to change the fortunes of Pakistan?"

This anger of Ahmed Shehzad shows the ongoing dissatisfaction in Pakistan cricket. This debate may intensify before the start of PSL. Cricket fans will now want to see whether PSL will be able to improve its image or will lag behind IPL as usual.
