NCORD meeting in Latehar: Instructions for strict action against illegal opium-hemp cultivation and smuggling
Latehar, Jharkhand:- To stop drug trafficking and illegal farming in Latehar district, a meeting of the district level NCORD committee was organized under the joint chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Utkarsh Gupta and Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav on Wednesday. In the meeting, illegal cultivation, smuggling of opium and ganja and their ill effects were reviewed in detail.
While giving instructions to the concerned zonal officers and police station in-charges, the Deputy Commissioner said that in areas where information about illegal cultivation of opium or ganja is received, immediate action should be taken to ensure destruction of the crops. Also, the persons involved in this illegal activity should be identified and strict legal action should be taken against them. He directed the officers to keep a constant vigil on the sale, consumption and smuggling of drugs and to root out such activities.
Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav said that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal drug trade. He stressed on strengthening the intelligence network and conducting regular raids. It was also decided in the meeting that the youth would be made aware of the ill effects of drug abuse by running awareness campaigns in schools, colleges and rural areas.
Besides, instructions were given to all the concerned departments to play an active role in building a drug-free society by working with mutual coordination. Additional Collector Rama Ravidas, Sub-Divisional Officer Latehar Ajay Kumar Rajak, Sub-Divisional Officer Mahuadand Bipin Kumar Dubey and officers of various departments, zonal officer and police station in-charge were present in the meeting.
