Storm wreaks havoc in Noida-Greater Noida, 150 electricity poles collapsed; Darkness in 16 villages, repairs underway – Read
The weather suddenly changed in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday evening. Strong storm and rain badly affected life. At many places in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, trees were uprooted and fell on the roads. Due to this sudden change, on one hand people got relief from the scorching heat, on the other hand they also had to suffer huge losses.
Noida, Greater Noida, Greater Noida West (Greno West) and rural areas like Dadri, Dankaur, Rabupura, Jewar were most affected by rain and storm. At many places, electric poles fell and roads were blocked, due to which people had to face huge problems in transportation.
More than 150 electric poles were broken
The biggest impact of the storm was on the electricity system. Due to the strong winds, more than 150 electric poles were broken, while about 25 transformers developed faults and many transformers blew up completely. Due to this, there was sudden power failure in many areas and people had to remain in darkness throughout the night. Electricity supply to about 16 villages came to a complete halt, due to which the villagers had to face a lot of problems.
After the strong storm and rain, a drop in temperature was definitely recorded, which brought relief from the heat, but this relief came with losses. Farmers have been hit the most. At present the wheat crop is standing ready in the fields, but due to strong winds and rain the crop fell on the ground. Farmers say that this will affect the production and the quality of the crop will also reduce, due to which they will not be able to get a fair price in the market. Many farmers have expressed apprehension that if the weather continues to be bad like this, their months of hard work may go in vain.
Advisory issued in view of the weather
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory in view of the bad weather. People have been advised not to leave the house unnecessarily. Also, people have been asked to stay away from trees and electric poles. The administration is also on alert mode and the damage is being assessed.
According to IMD, wind speed of more than 65 kilometers per hour was recorded in Delhi-NCR, Noida and Greater Noida. The Meteorological Department has also predicted strong winds, rain and hailstorm in some areas on March 19 and 21. Yellow alert has been issued for this.
One positive aspect of this change was that due to heavy rains and winds, improvement in the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded, which gave people a chance to breathe clean air. However, the damage caused by the storm has clearly affected life and this changed weather pattern is likely to continue in the coming days.
