Matt Short to Miss Start of IPL 2026 Season

The Chennai Super Kings have suffered another blow as Australian all-rounder Matt Short is likely to miss the first few games for the franchise due to a thumb fracture.

The Chennai Super Kings are yet to release an official statement on his injury, and this type of injury is serious as the thumb factor could also rule him out of the tournament.

Earlier, Nathan Ellis was ruled out of the entire tournament due to a hamstring injury while playing in the domestic one-day cup final held on March 11.

The five-time champions are set to announce their replacement, but the CSK 2026 squad still features several stars like Matt Henry, Jamie Overton, Zak Foulkes, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary in their ranks.

As per reports, the Chennai Super Kings team management has reached out to Ottneil Baartman, who signed Hyderabad Kingsmen in the Pakistan Super League for PKR 1.1 crore.

Matt Short has previously featured for the Punjab Kings and joined CSK for a price of INR 1.50 crore.
