Varinder Ghuman Death Case: FIR Filed Against 4 Fortis Amritsar Doctors

Varinder Ghuman, a 41-year-old renowned vegetarian bodybuilder and actor, tragically passed away on October 9, 2025, while undergoing shoulder surgery at the hospital. Notably, Ghuman was reportedly in stable condition and had walked into the operation theater himself prior to the procedure.
Allegations of Medical Negligence
The family of the late bodybuilder has consistently alleged that his death was the result of negligence on the part of the attending medical team. They have demanded accountability, claiming that proper medical protocols were not followed during the surgery.
Initially, hospital authorities maintained that Ghuman suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while in the operation theatre. However, these claims were challenged by the family, leading to a deeper investigation.
SIT Report and FIR Details
The case gained momentum after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a thorough probe. Based on its findings, an FIR has now been registered against four doctors:
Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Tapish Shukla
Consultant Anesthetist Dr. Alka Tiwari
Head of Anesthesia and Cardiology Consultant Dr. Rajinder Kaur
Dr. Arun Kumar Chopra
All four have been booked under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Medical Board Findings
A seven-member medical board was constituted to independently assess the allegations. The board’s report, released earlier in 2026, reportedly highlighted lapses in adhering to standard medical protocols during the procedure.
Hospital’s Response
Fortis Hospital had earlier stated that the surgery was completed successfully and that Ghuman suffered a sudden arrhythmia post-operation. The hospital has maintained that all necessary precautions were taken.
