Foundation Season 4: Release date buzz, cast news and plot details – Everything we know so far
The Foundation is one of the most highly anticipated science fiction shows across the world on OTT platforms, with a fabulous adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s series of books through an all-encompassing story that connects psychohistory with the rise and fall of empires to humanity’s destiny. The audience is yearning for the release of Foundation: Season 4, since there will be even more detailed exploration of The Mule’s legacy, possible revolts or insurrections of robots, the impact and role of Earth, and character emotional consequences from what was previously shown in Season 3’s phenomenal finale, which will occur late in 2025. Season three was renewed before the completion of season three by Apple TV+ and began production early in January 2026, filmed primarily in Prague under new co-tested showrunners Ian Goldberg and David Kob; Season 1-3 of Foundation is streaming now, with the expectation of Season 4 being released soon.
Foundation Season 4: Release Date Buzz (Speculative)
The date for the release has not been confirmed. For the past seasons, typically two years had elapsed between seasons:
- 2021 for Season 1
- 2023 for Season 2
- From July until September 2025 for Season 3
This indicates that the likely time for Season 4 to appear would be either 2027, possibly very late (mid or late), depending on how long it takes to finish editing, etc. According to some articles, Season 4 could debut sometime in 2027, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Foundation Season 4: Cast News
The Season 3 ending introduced major shifts (including revelations around The Mule and empire dynamics), so returns are based on surviving characters and story threads. Confirmed or heavily expected returning stars include:
- Jared Harris as Hari Seldon
- Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick
- Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk/Darkness (or Brother Darkness)
- Synnøve Karlsen as Bayta “The Mule” Mallow
- Cody Fern as Toran Mallow
- Other likely returns or mentions: Brandon P Bell (Han Pritcher), Alexander Siddig (Ebling Mis), Tómas Lemarquis (Magnifico Giganticus), Cherry Jones (Ambassador Quent), Troy Kotsur (Preem Palver), and Rowena King (Kalle)
Notable absences from some projections include Lee Pace (Brother Day), Cassian Bilton (Brother Dawn), and Laura Birn (Lady Demerzel), due to the Season 3 finale’s events potentially concluding their arcs—though surprises are possible in this sprawling saga.
Foundation Season 4: Plot Details
Details about the plot are still classified so as not to spoil any surprises; however, Season Four will continue to expand on Isaac Asimov’s huge universe, but will include details about the time period when The Mule emerged and its impact, advancements such as robotic revolts, the role of Earth within the story, and the long-term effects of psychohistory.
The finale of Season Three offered some surprises that would “change the course” of the series and create new conflict and explorational avenues. Greater epic scope, as shown through themes of empire disintegration/collapse, mental ability, and preservation of the galaxy, will be developed in Season Four. The showrunners have also indicated their enthusiasm for “carrying the torch forward” through this remarkable science fiction saga.
All previous seasons will be available for streaming on Apple TV +. Keep an eye out for any updates from Apple concerning casting, trailers, or debut dates as production begins to ramp up!
