IPL Ranking WCA: The Indian Premier League (IPL), the world’s richest cricket tournament, was ranked third among 10 franchise leagues in the World Cricketers Association (WCA) rankings released on Thursday. England’s ‘The Hundred’ and South Africa’s ‘SA20’ stood first and second respectively.

According to the WCA, IPL received the highest marks for average payouts and credibility of payouts, but missed the top spot due to lagging behind in areas like “right to host” and “dispute resolution”. Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) were included in the top five.

WCA CEO Tom Moffat said that while the global expansion of domestic leagues has benefited the game, it is also vital to ensure that the interests and welfare of players are protected.

‘We want all recognized leagues to succeed’

Tom Moffat said, “The WCA is fortunate to have a broad view of the global game, and the opportunity to interact daily with players playing in leagues around the world. The growth of the domestic leagues landscape has been a tremendous positive for our game, but there is still room for improvement. We want all affiliated leagues to succeed, and provide the appropriate protections and standards for those involved.”

‘Our intention is to provide frequent updates’

Tom Moffat added that “In the absence of enforceable global standards across a number of key areas identified by players and their representatives, the updated ‘Leagues Hub’ provides an evolving and integrated benchmarking on existing practices. We have contacted every league and invited them to work with us to ensure they meet best practice standards, and drive the professionalization and development of our game.
