New Delhi. In an unexpected development in the country’s news world late on Friday evening, the premises of the prestigious news agency United News of India (UNI) was evacuated by using force on the journalists and employees along with hundreds of personnel of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces.
For the last several decades, UNI was operating from the premises located at 09 Rafi Marg adjacent to Sansad Marg. A few hours after the decision this evening on the petition pending in the Delhi High Court after the cancellation of allotment by the Ministry of Urban Development, some government officials, without any prior notice, along with about 300 soldiers and officers of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces and some lawyers, entered the premises and started pressurizing the journalists and other employees working there to immediately vacate the newsroom and go out of the premises. Whereas at that time the work of transmitting news was the highest.
He said that this action is being taken on the orders of the court, but he could not show any written order. He said in harsh words that if the employees do not come out peacefully, they will have to use force.
Till that time the employees were not aware of the decision of the Delhi High Court. It is noteworthy that the Delhi High Court in its decision has justified the decision of the Land Development Office of the Urban Development Department to cancel the land allotment.
On the request of the employees to give them some time and wait for the arrival of the company management and to show them the notice, they forcibly dragged and pushed some employees, including women employees, from their seats and took them out of the newsroom. During this time he was also abused.
The police personnel occupied the gate of the complex and did not allow the journalists and management officials who had gone out in connection with the news to enter inside. They could not even take their personal belongings.
Due to the sudden evacuation of this premises, the transmission of news to more than 500 subscribers of UNI’s English, Hindi and Urdu services suddenly stopped. Due to this, the existence of the historical Samvad Samiti and the future of hundreds of employees and their families is hanging in the balance.
