Akshay Kumar says Chuck Norris shaped ‘a part of me’

As the world is grieving the demise of martial arts legend, Chuck Norris, who impacted many across the world through their art, a quiet message from a Bollywood star, who is also famous for the same craft, has turned into a wider moment of reflection

For some, he was a tough on-screen figure, while for others, including Akshay Kumar, he was part of how they first understood discipline and martial arts.

The  58-year-old on Friday shared a personal note after the death of the Hollywood legend, who died at the age of 86. His family described it as a “sudden passing”, adding that he was “surrounded by his family and was at peace”.

Posting on X, Akshay wrote: “Growing up as a martial artist, watching Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, Missing in Action, and many more wasn’t just entertainment…it was education.”

He added that Norris’s “discipline, strength, and that effortless command” stayed with him.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap also reacted, sharing a post online with broken heart emojis.

For many, the Hellbound star was more than an actor. Before films, he was a successful martial artist. His on-screen image as a quiet but tough figure came through roles in Walker, Texas Ranger and films like The Delta Force.

One of his most remembered moments remains his fight with Bruce Lee in the 1972 film Return of the Dragonset inside Rome’s Colosseum.

He later appeared in more than 20 films and even made a light cameo in Dodgeball. In recent years, he worked less often but still appeared in projects like The Expendables 2.

Just days before his death, he shared a sparring video online, writing: “I don’t age. I level up.”
