Prime Minister Modi did not even use his much talked about friendship to achieve ceasefire: Jairam Ramesh
‘It has been exactly 21 days since America and Israel started air strikes on Iran.’
New Delhi, March 21 (Language) Congress on Saturday said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government’s non-condemnation of the US-Israel attacks on Iran and the ‘brutal attempts to force regime change’ there reflects ‘moral cowardice’ and ‘political betrayal’ of India’s civilizational values.
Congress general secretary and communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Modi ‘did not even use his much-talked about friendship’ with the US President (Donald Trump) and Israel’s Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) to bring about a ceasefire. Ramesh said that it has been exactly 21 days since America and Israel started air strikes on Iran.
He asked whether the Modi government has condemned or criticized or expressed regret for the horrific air attack on Iran by America and Israel, which has now caused serious economic instability in the entire world including India? The answer is no.
He asked, ‘Has the Modi government condemned or criticized or expressed regret over the repeated targeting and killing of Iran’s top leaders by the US and Israel? The answer is- no.
Ramesh said, ‘Has the Modi government condemned or criticized or expressed regret for the brutal attempts by the US and Israel to bring about regime change and destabilize the state in Iran, which could lead to civil war in Iran? The answer is- no.
He said, ‘Has the Modi government made any serious diplomatic efforts and initiatives to immediately stop the bombing of Iran and attacks on Gulf countries? Has the Prime Minister used his much-publicised friendship with the US President and the Israeli Prime Minister to broker a ceasefire? The answer is no.
Ramesh said that these 4 ‘no’ – reflect moral cowardice and political betrayal towards India’s civilizational values.’ Israel said that even today Iran continued to fire missiles towards it, while Saudi Arabia said that it shot down 20 drones in the eastern part of the country within a few hours. According to the Saudi Defense Ministry, there were no casualties or damage in the attack.
So far in this war, more than 1,300 soldiers have died in Iran, more than 1,000 in Lebanon, 15 in Israel and 13 American soldiers in the region. Millions of people have been displaced in Lebanon and Iran.
