Russia carried out air strikes overnight, claimed to have shot down 283 Ukrainian drones
Moscow. Amid the ongoing military conflict between America, Israel and Iran in West Asia, Russia has claimed that it shot down 283 Ukrainian drones overnight. With this claim of Russia, the seriousness of the increasing military conflict and regional tension between the two countries has once again come to the fore.
According to Ukraine’s Ukrainska Pravda, Turkey’s news agency Anadolu Agency (AA) and local media reports, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed on Saturday that it shot down 283 Ukrainian drones in different parts of the country overnight. The largest attack took place in the southern Rostov region, where 90 drones were destroyed en route. The drones were intercepted over Bryansk, Smolensk, Kaluga, Belgorod, Voronezh, Rostov, Volgograd, Tula, Ryazan, Kursk, Saratov, Samara and Moscow regions, as well as over the Republic of Tatarstan and occupied Crimea.
Meanwhile, the impact of the drone attack was seen in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, where a drone, in an attempt to target oil refineries, fell on a residential building under construction. Regional head Radiya Khabirov said several drones were shot down near the refineries.
The drones were likely targeting facilities of Bashneft, which is part of Rosneft, according to the analysis. These refineries are located in the Northern Industrial Zone of Ufa, one of Russia’s major petrochemical centres. Rosneft operates three major refineries in the region, Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim, Bashneft-Novoil and Bashneft-UNPZ, very close to each other.
Ukrainian media, on the other hand, claimed that power supply was disrupted in most parts of the Chernihiv region following Russian airstrikes. However, due to the ongoing war it remains difficult to independently verify the claims of both sides. The Russia-Ukraine war seems to be intensifying due to continuous drone and air strikes, which has increased concerns about regional and global security.
