HAL’s order book reaches ₹2.22 lakh crore: Big boost from Tejas, Prachanda and Sukhoi

Strengthening India’s defense production capacity, the order book of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has reached more than ₹2.22 lakh crore. According to information given to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, the company has several big projects, whose delivery is scheduled by March 2034. These projects mainly include 180 HAL Tejas Mk1A fighter aircraft, 156 HAL Prachanda Light Combat Helicopter, and 34 HAL Dhruv helicopters. Apart from this, manufacturing of HTT-40 trainer and Dornier Do 228 aircraft is also going on.

HAL CMD informed that the company is currently working on projects worth ₹2,22,182 crore, which are taking India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capability to new heights. Significant progress has been made in the HAL Tejas Mk1A programme. So far, 5 advanced 4.5th generation fighter aircraft have been ready. In these, modern radar, data transfer unit (DTU) and state-of-the-art missile systems like ASRAAM and ASTRA missile have been successfully tested.

To increase production capacity, a third assembly line for Tejas has been started in Nashik, with a target of manufacturing 24 aircraft every year. A second line has also been established for the HTT-40 trainer.

In the helicopter sector, HAL has so far delivered 72 Dhruv helicopters and the order for 34 additional units is in progress. In particular, the HAL Prachanda program has achieved great success, with 15 helicopters delivered ahead of schedule and now a major order for 156 helicopters for the Army and Air Force.

At the same time, production of Dornier Do 228 aircraft is also continuing, which play an important role in maritime surveillance and transportation.

Along with this, the production of Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet is also being restarted. The Defense Ministry had approved an order for 12 aircraft worth about ₹13,500 crore in December 2024. These aircraft include 62.6% indigenous content, which is a big step towards self-reliant India.

HAL also has an order for 240 AL-31FP engines, which are required for the Su-30MKI fleet. Their delivery is being done in a phased manner.

Let us tell you that this information was given in the parliamentary report based on ‘Demand for grants for 2026-27 for Defense Public Sector Undertakings’. HAL management emphasized the company’s strong performance and its important role in indigenous defense production.
