Sabudana during Navratri fast: panacea for energy and health

On the holy festival of Chaitra Navratri, devotees of Goddess Durga observe fast for nine days and immerse themselves in spiritual ecstasy. But it is challenging to maintain energy and nutrition for the body during fasting. In such a situation, sago proves to be the best option. This light, easily digestible and flavourful dish removes fatigue and provides freshness throughout the day.

Small grains of sago prepared from cassava tubers become shiny like pearls when soaked in water. During fasting, it is consumed only in khichdi, kheer or boiled form. By adding vegetables like potatoes and peas, its nutritional value increases manifold. Eating sago in the morning keeps you active throughout the day.

Carbohydrates, fibre, protein along with iron, potassium and calcium are found in abundance in sago. It provides instant energy, prevents weakness. Fiber strengthens digestion and keeps away problems like constipation and indigestion. Having fewer calories makes weight control easier. Beneficial for diabetic patients, as it keeps blood sugar stable. Potassium is useful for heart health and improves skin and hair.

Simple method of preparation: Soak and boil for 2-3 hours, add peanuts, potatoes and garnish with spices and prepare Khichdi. This dish makes fasting simple and healthy, strengthens the bones and keeps blood pressure balanced. Connect devotion with health by adopting sago during Navratri.
