Maharashtra: Uddhav Thackeray demands strict action against ‘fake religious leaders’!

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena-UBT president Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday challenged the state government and demanded immediate action against ‘fake religious leaders’. This demand has arisen after the case of Ashok Kharat alias Bhondu Baba, who claimed to be an expert in cosmology and a merchant navy captain and pretended to be a spiritual guru. Recently Nashik Police has arrested him for raping a female follower.

Kharat’s arrest has not only exposed his fraud but also created a political storm in the state.

Speaking at a press conference after inaugurating the Import Export Logistics Course in Mumbai, Thackeray demanded that the investigation should not be limited to just individuals but the political nexus supporting such fraudulent spiritual leaders should also be exposed.

Thackeray highlighted the interrelationship of politics and superstition and criticized the current situation in Maharashtra.

He said that even though Maharashtra has a strong anti-superstition and anti-black magic law, it is ineffective if the keepers of the law themselves are following such religious leaders.

He alleged that these controversies were being hyped up to divert public attention from more important issues, specifically citing the ‘Epstein files’ and other significant scandals.

Taking an indirect dig at his political rivals, Thackeray said those who lack competence and cannot achieve anything through their leadership are resorting to lemons, needles and black magic.

When asked about reports that the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had provided water facilities to Ashok Kharat’s establishment, Thackeray said, “I have no objection – investigate everyone thoroughly. Let’s see how deep the matter is. Be it a village baba or a person associated with a political party, action should be taken against everyone.”

Following reports that 39 lakh liters of water was sanctioned for the ashram during the MVA regime, the Shiv Sena-UBT chief took an aggressive stance and challenged the state government to conduct a thorough investigation.
