India’s humanitarian initiative after Kabul attack: 2.5 tonnes of medicines sent, Afghanistan shaken by over 400 deaths
Kabul. Following the deadly airstrike in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, India has taken a major step in providing humanitarian assistance. India has sent 2.5 tons of emergency medical supplies to Afghanistan to help treat the injured.
The aid includes life-saving medicines, medical kits, disposables, and essential equipment. This aid comes at a time when Kabul’s hospitals are overwhelmed with people injured in the attack.
Foreign Ministry statement
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is committed to providing all possible assistance for the treatment of those injured in the March 16 attack. He reiterated India’s solidarity with the Afghan people.
Massive destruction in the attack
According to local reports, an airstrike targeting a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul on the night of March 16 killed more than 400 people and injured over 250. The dead included a large number of patients and staff.
This incident is being considered one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in Afghanistan in recent years .
International condemnation
The attack has drawn strong global condemnation, with UN Human Rights Representative Richard Bennett expressing deep concern and urging all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law.
At the same time, human rights organizations have demanded an independent international investigation into this incident.
Afghanistan-Pakistan tension escalates
The attack has further escalated tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan . Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid issued a stern warning to Pakistan, threatening retaliation.
However, amid rising tensions, both sides have announced a temporary ceasefire. Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said military operations have been halted for a few days in view of Eid al-Fitr.
Balancing Relief and Diplomacy
Following Pakistan’s announcement, the Taliban also announced a temporary halt to its military operations, a decision made at the request of countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar.
