The unsung hero of India’s victory, who quietly fulfilled Gambhir-Surya’s dream!

India created history by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 title. In the final match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (8 March), Team India defeated New Zealand in a one-sided fashion and captured the T20 World Cup trophy for the third time. The Indian team has now become the team to win this title the most number of times.

Team India lost the toss in the final and batted first and scored 255 runs at the loss of 5 wickets and all out New Zealand for 159 in 18.2 overs. Suryakumar Yadav Brigade won by 96 runs and became the first team in the world to lift the T20 World Cup trophy on home soil.

Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Jasprit Bumrah are being called the stars in this historic title victory of India. All the headlines are around these players but Shivam Dubey is not discussed that much, although this player has performed in almost every match.

Played important innings in the final also

With the half-centuries of Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54), the Indian team had crossed the 200-run mark in 15 overs. However, after this Jimmy Neesham changed the whole story by taking 3 wickets in one over. While Team India was looking to score 280 plus some time back, now it seemed difficult for it to cross 250 but Shivam Dubey took charge in the last over and scored 24 runs to take the team to 255 runs. He remained unbeaten after scoring 26 runs in 8 balls.

Shivam Dubey was brilliant throughout the tournament

He has played such short but valuable innings throughout the tournament. In the semi-final against England, Shivam Dubey, after scoring 43 runs in 25 balls, bowled the first three balls of the last over of the match well and secured Team India’s ticket to the final. He played an innings of 27 runs in the high-voltage match against Pakistan, taking the team to the match winning total. His best performance came against Netherlands. Shivam Dubey scored 66 runs in 31 balls against the Dutch team and then also took 2 wickets for 35 runs in 3 overs.

Shivam Dubey scored 235 runs in this T20 World Cup. He also took 5 wickets. He was India’s fourth highest run scorer in the tournament. His impact was more than that of an all-rounder like Hardik Pandya, yet he is not in the limelight. If you look at the scorecard, except for one or two matches, Shivam Dubey’s performance will not appear to be anything special but in the context of the match, his contribution has been valuable. That is why now he is being called the unsung hero of Team India’s title victory.
