Sports News: On the lines of Asia Cup, preparations are underway to start a new cricket tournament ‘Euro Nations Cup’ in Europe. Cricket Ireland Chairman Brian MacNeice has expressed confidence that this tournament can start by 2027. There is a plan to organize this competition in both men and women categories.

Announcing Ireland’s domestic international fixtures for 2026, McNeice said he was excited about the new tournament which would give cricket a bigger platform in Europe.

Big step towards development of cricket in Europe

The Chairman of Cricket Ireland said that cricket was becoming increasingly popular in Europe, but the lack of major tournaments was being felt at the regional level. Keeping this in mind, the idea of Euro Nations Cup came to the fore. He said that just as Asia Cup is an important platform for Asian countries, similarly there should be a big tournament for European teams too.

According to McNeese, England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy and other European countries can participate in this competition. However, the final list of teams and format is yet to be announced.

Expected to start by 2027

Brian McNeese said that talks have been going on with different cricket boards and organizations regarding this tournament for a long time. He expressed confidence that this competition can start by the summer of 2027. He said,

‘We have been working on this idea for a long time. There have been discussions with many people and we are confident that this tournament will definitely happen. It can be officially announced in the coming months.

He also clarified that information related to the format of the tournament, number of matches and hosting will be released later.

The event will be held in both men and women categories

The special thing about this proposed tournament will be that it will not be limited to men’s cricket only. The organizers aim to organize it in both men’s and women’s categories, so that women’s cricket can also be promoted in Europe. McNeice said broadcasting rights and commercial agreements are still under discussion, so it is too early to share more details before an official announcement.
