Preparation to increase medical seats in Jharkhand, government sent proposal to NMC
Jharkhand Government:The Health Department of the Government of Jharkhand has taken a big step to strengthen medical education in the state and overcome the shortage of doctors. The government has sent a proposal to the National Medical Commission (NMC) to increase the number of MBBS and PG seats in various medical colleges of the state. Under this proposal, a plan has been made to increase 220 MBBS seats and 211 PG seats.
Government gave instructions to medical colleges
The government has directed all the concerned medical colleges to complete necessary preparations, so that they can meet all the standards during the NMC inspection. This will increase the chances of getting approval for increase in seats.
Proposal to increase seats in these government medical colleges
Let us tell you that recently the number of MBBS seats in MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur has been increased from 100 to 150. Similarly, a proposal has been sent to increase the seats from 100 to 150 in the government medical colleges of Dumka, Hazaribagh and Dhanbad. There is a plan to increase MBBS seats from 180 to 250 in RIMS, Ranchi.

Emphasis has also been laid on increasing PG seats. PG seats in MGM Medical College have increased from 45 to 51. Earlier there were 9 PG seats in Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College, Dhanbad, which have been increased to 19, and now it is proposed to increase it to 25.
PG studies will be conducted for the first time in 3 medical colleges
Apart from this, a proposal has been sent to start PG studies for the first time in three new medical colleges of the state – Phulo Jhano Medical College (Dumka), Shaheed Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College (Hazaribagh) and Medinirai Medical College (Palamu). Here the demand has been made for 21, 30 and 21 seats respectively. If this proposal is approved, medical education in Jharkhand will get a big boost and the shortage of specialist doctors will be removed to a great extent.
