Allahabad High Court has sought a report from the UP government regarding the deadly Chinese manjha issue.
Prayagraj. The UP government has issued orders to impose a strict ban on Chinese horse-drawn carriages which are taking lives and seriously injuring people. Allahabad High Court has also ordered to tighten the noose on those selling Chinese Manja. At the same time, a petition has been filed in Allahabad High Court saying that dangerous Chinese Manjha is being sold secretly in UP. Information about accidents caused by Chinese boats has also been given in the petition. Allahabad High Court, while hearing this petition, has asked the UP government to file a report regarding Chinese Manjha within a month.

Advocate Pradeep Pandey, resident of Deoria, UP, has filed a contempt petition in the bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal of Allahabad High Court. In this petition, Pradeep Pandey has made UP Principal Secretary Home and DGP as parties. In the petition, Pradeep Pandey has said that Allahabad High Court, after hearing a PIL in the year 2015, had imposed a strict ban on the manufacture, sale and use of Chinese Manjha. After this, in January 2026 also, after hearing a petition, the High Court had asked to stop selling Chinese Manja. It has been said in the petition that despite this, Chinese Manja is being sold in UP.

It has been told in the petition that on January 22, 2026, lawyer Anoop Srivastava was injured when a Chinese manjha got stuck in his neck in Prayagraj. The petition also states that many people have died and been injured due to Chinese tractors in the last one year in many districts including Lucknow, Unnao, Jaunpur and Meerut. It has been argued in the petition that apart from shops, Chinese Manjha is also sold online. Its sale has been described as a violation of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution. Allahabad High Court has asked the UP government to file its reply in this matter within a month.
