PSL 2026 News: Taking an important decision on Sunday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Confirmed that this year Pakistan Super League (PSL) It will be played without spectators. Pakistan has taken this decision in the wake of security concerns arising from ongoing tensions in West Asia and a series of attacks on Pakistan from Afghanistan. PSL 2026 is scheduled to begin on March 26; However, this time the tournament will be played only in two cities Karachi and Lahore. Earlier, the tournament was planned to be held in six different cities. In a press conference, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi clarified that spectators will not be allowed into the stadium until the situation is rectified. He also clarified that the opening ceremony of PSL 2026 will also not be held.

Naqvi said, “PSL is our international brand and many foreign players participate in it. We cannot cancel the tournament. However, given the current situation, it is not feasible to bring 25,000 to 30,000 people together in the stadium.” He said that several rounds of meetings were held with the Government of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and various security agencies before taking this decision. Ultimately, this decision was taken considering the national priorities of the country.

Naqvi added, “We are currently appealing to the public to limit their movement; under such circumstances, it would not be appropriate to invite thousands of spectators to the stadium every day. Hence, this difficult yet necessary decision has been taken.” The PCB also announced that all the franchises will be given fair compensation to cover the loss of income from stadium entry fees. Additionally, fans who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund of their tickets within the next 72 hours.

He also noted that in view of the ongoing fuel crisis in the country, directives have been issued to restrict movement of people. Schools have been closed, ‘work from home’ policies have been implemented and Eid holidays have also been extended.
A total of 44 matches will be played during PSL 2026, which will take place from March 26 to May 3. 8 teams are participating for the first time this season:
1- Hyderabad Kingsmen
2- Islamabad United
3- Karachi Kings
4- Lahore Qalandars
5- Multan Sultans
6- Peshawar Zalmi
7- Quetta Gladiators
8- Rawalpindi Pindis
Each team will play 10 matches. The top 4 teams in the points table will qualify for the ‘play-off’ round. The play-off round will consist of ‘Qualifier 1’, ‘Eliminator’, ‘Qualifier 2’ and ‘Final Match’. The final will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on May 3. A ‘reserve day’ is also fixed in case of rain disruption.
