Pakistan Super League 2026: The event will be held without spectators
New Delhi: Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 is going to start from March 26, but this time the format of the tournament has completely changed. Due to the ongoing conflicts and fuel crisis in West Asia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken an important decision. This time all matches will be held without spectators, and the number of hosting cities has also been reduced.
impact of fuel crisis
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that there has been a disruption in the oil supply in the country, resulting in a huge shortage of fuel. The government has appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. In such circumstances, if thousands of spectators were present in the stadium, the situation could have worsened. Therefore the Board has taken this tough decision.
Matches will be played behind closed doors
This decision has not been taken suddenly, but has been implemented after discussions with security agencies and concerned officials. Naqvi said that when the public is being asked to reduce travel, it would not be appropriate to gather crowds at big sports events. Therefore all matches will be played behind closed doors.
Tournament limited to Lahore and Karachi
Earlier, PSL 2026 was planned to be held in six cities, but now it has been limited to only Lahore and Karachi. Along with this, the inauguration ceremony to be held in Lahore has also been canceled so that expenses and arrangements can be controlled.
Ticket amount will be refunded
PCB has made it clear that spectators who have already purchased tickets will be refunded their full amount. Apart from this, the franchise will also be compensated for the loss caused by the empty stadium. The board has assured that when the situation becomes normal, the event will be organized on a full scale in future.
PSL schedule released
The schedule of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has been released, in which many important changes will be seen. This league will start from March 26 and run till May 3, in which there will be a total of 44 matches. The specialty of this season is that for the first time eight teams will participate in it.
The top four placed teams in the points table will qualify for the playoffs. The final of the tournament will be held on May 3 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Keeping in mind the weather conditions, the organizing committee has also fixed a reserve day for the final, so that in case of rain, the match can be completed without any hindrance.
