Two buildings collapsed due to gas explosion in Turkey, created panic

Istanbul: A natural gas explosion occurred in Fatih district of Istanbul in Turkey on Sunday. The sound of the explosion was heard far away. Due to this two buildings collapsed. One person died and many people were injured in the accident. There was panic in the entire district due to the natural gas explosion.

The injured were pulled out from the debris.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said search and rescue teams pulled 10 injured people from the debris of the collapsed buildings, who were taken to hospital. The condition of one is very serious.

Governor visited the hospital
Governor Gul visited the blast site and inquired about the health of the people admitted to the hospital. Officials said one of the collapsed buildings was a two-storey building while the other was a single-storey one.

Another building also collapsed due to the explosion
According to a report by Turkiye Today, Governor Gul said that the explosion occurred in a building in the afternoon. Based on initial assessment, the explosion was caused by natural gas. He further said that due to the collapse of the building where the explosion occurred, the adjacent building also collapsed.

The houses are decades old
Istanbul’s Fatih district is considered one of the city’s riskiest districts in terms of building safety, as most of its houses are decades old. Predates modern seismic standards.
