Big upset in Miami Open 2026, World No. 1 Alcaraz out of third round
Miami. Miami Open 2026 witnessed a major upset, where world number-1 Carlos Alcaraz had to face defeat in the third round on Sunday. He was eliminated by American Sebastian Korda by defeating him in a tough match in three sets.
The 22-year-old Alcaraz, who completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open in January this year, has reached a record of 17-2 so far this season. Earlier, he had lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of Indian Wells last week.
In the match, Korda had a chance to serve the match at 5-4 in the second set, but Alcaraz made a brilliant comeback and won five consecutive games. However, 25-year-old Korda held her own in the third set and won 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
After the match, Alcaraz said, “It was a tough match. Korda played a great game and performed better than me in important moments.”
Korda said on his victory, “The most important thing in today’s match was confidence. I had confidence in every shot and in the end I got success.”
Korda, ranked 36th in the world according to the ATP Tour, became the lowest-ranked player to defeat Alcaraz. Earlier this feat was done by David Goffin last year.
Now Korda will next face qualifier Martin Landalus, who defeated Karen Khachanov to reach the next round.
In other matches, America’s Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul have also reached the fourth round. Apart from this, Jiri Lehka, Valentin Vacherot and Tomas Martin Echeverri also entered the next stage by winning their respective matches.
