The first list of SIR in West Bengal will be released today, about 10 lakh names are likely to be cut.
Under the special intensive revision process in West Bengal, the first supplementary voter list is going to be released in the evening today i.e. on 23 March 2026. Tight security arrangements have been made in the entire state regarding this list and the administration is completely alert. Special police vigil has been increased in sensitive areas in the state, while additional arrangements have been ensured to prevent unruly crowds or any untoward situation.
According to sources in the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal, out of the total 60 lakh pending cases, about 27 lakh 30 thousand cases have been resolved till last Friday. On this basis, the first supplementary list is being published, which is considered an important step in the preparation for the upcoming assembly elections.
How many names were deleted?
According to sources, out of the settled cases, names of about 10 lakh people have been removed from the voter list. Hard copies of these names will be sent and hung at the respective booths through the District Election Officers. Also, this list will also be available on the official website of the Election Commission and the website of Bengal CEO Office.
Two main categories in the list
The supplementary list will include two major categories. The first category will include those names which have been added to the final voter list, while the second category will include those names which have been deleted. Voters whose names have been struck off can demand a hearing by filing an appeal in the Appellate Tribunal online or offline.
Election Commission increased surveillance on Bengal
The Election Commission is keeping a close watch on West Bengal. On the instructions of the Commission, senior police officers have been visiting police stations across the state since Sunday and are giving necessary guidelines to the station in-charges to ensure free and fair voting. Meanwhile, sources in the CEO office said that by March 31, additional 300 companies of central forces will reach Bengal.
