Nora Fatehi’s work permit will be canceled, the sword of deportation hangs, team of 10 lawyers reached the ministry

Nora Fatehi’s troubles are continuously increasing. The uproar over obscenity in the Hindi version of the song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the Kannada film ‘KD Devil’ has now reached its peak at the legal and social level. A group of 10 lawyers has demanded the Home Ministry to cancel Nora Fatehi’s work permit and deport her from India. The Government of India has already banned this song, while the National Commission for Women has also started investigating the matter.

Why only Nora Fatehi is at the center of the controversy, while Sanjay Dutt has also been seen in the song and there is not that much noise on the makers of the film, this question is now echoing from social media to Parliament. Nora has given clarification saying that she was not aware of the lyrics of the Hindi version, but the lawyers have termed her clarification as ‘an afterthought’ and have intensified the demand for action.

Lawyers asked for deportation from Home Ministry

Apart from the Home Ministry, a group of 10 lawyers has given a complaint to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, CBFC, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and National Commission for Women. The petition states that the song is ‘extremely obscene’, sexually provocative and insulting to the dignity of women. The lawyers argued that Nora Fatehi had misused her privilege to work in India by associating with such content.

Reference to Foreigners Act and Passport Act

The petitioners have cited the provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and the Passport Act, 1920. He said the government has the right to take action against foreign nationals whose actions may disturb public decency or order. Sections of the Indian Justice Code, Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1986 and Information Technology Act, 2000 have also been mentioned in the petition.

Nora Fatehi’s clarification

I don’t know Kannada, was not aware of Hindi dub. Nora Fatehi gave clarification by sharing the video on Instagram. He said, ‘I shot this song in Kannada three years ago. When I shot this song, I said yes to it because it was part of a big film and Sanjay Dutt was also in it, so how could anyone say no to him? He further said, I thought that this song is a remake of ‘Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main’. I had no role in its Hindi adaptation. When he translated this song, I didn’t feel anything wrong but I don’t know Kannada, so I just trust what he said.

Whatever he has done now, like dubbing it in Hindi and changing its lyrics, he did not take any approval from me. I didn’t know about this at all.

Displeasure over AI photos at launch event

Referring to the launch event, Nora said, ‘When I went to the launch event, I saw the Kannada version and I found a big problem with it because they had used some of my pictures in the lyrics video, which were not looking good. They also used an AI created picture of Sanjay and me.

Seeing all this, I was very irritated at that event. Still, I kept myself calm. I was very confused about what I saw. When I saw the Hindi version, I knew that it would be criticized a lot. I told the director that this was not right. I distanced myself from this project. I did not promote it anywhere. I clearly told the director that my image and my respect are at stake with this project.

Lawyers’ answer

The team of lawyers rejected Nora’s explanation and said that it was an afterthought. He stressed that artists can take credit and money for the project, but cannot distance themselves from the content. Responsibility does not end with the use of AI tools.

Fatwa of Muslim Personal Darul Ifta

Aligarh’s Muslim Personal Darul Ifta has issued a fatwa against Nora Fatehi, saying the content of the song is against Islamic principles.

Controversy echoed in Parliament, minister announced ban

The controversy escalated so much that the matter reached Parliament. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, in response to a question by Samajwadi Party MP Anand Bhadauria in the Lok Sabha, confirmed that the song has been banned.
