Discussion on the failure of PSL is happening all over the world; some players broke the contract, some were unhappy with the salary.
PSL 2026 Controversy: A big controversy has arisen even before the start of Pakistan Super League 2026. On one hand, many foreign players are withdrawing from the league after signing the contract, while on the other hand, some players have demanded to increase their salary at the last moment. These circumstances have created a new challenge before the Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB. The 11th season of PSL is to start from March 26 in Lahore, but the situation remains completely uncertain even before the start of the tournament. This time two new teams have been added to the league, which has increased its scope, but the attitude of the players has raised questions on the event.
Conflict with IPL becomes a big problem
A major reason for the crisis over PSL 2026 is the conflict with the Indian Premier League. IPL is starting from March 28, which means both the leagues will be played at almost the same time. In such a situation, players are faced with a choice. Many foreign players, who were earlier ready to play PSL, are now giving preference to IPL due to more money and better opportunities. This is the reason why the number of players withdrawing from PSL is continuously increasing.
Challenge of tough decision before PCB
According to PTI report, PCB is currently focusing on organizing PSL on time. The board has not yet taken any strict action against those players who withdrew from the league citing personal reasons or broke their contracts. However, there is definitely a discussion going on within the board on the issue that such players should be banned for 2 to 4 years. But PCB is also cautious that foreign players may not strictly stay away from the league in future.
Money difference became a big reason
The biggest difference between PSL and IPL is the amount paid to the players. While players get huge contracts in IPL, PSL franchises are not able to offer such huge amounts. This is the reason why players are leaving PSL and moving to IPL. Last season, PCB had imposed a one-year ban on Corbin Bosch for breaking the contract, but it did not have any significant effect. Despite the ban, Bosch got a contract in IPL, which proved the PCB’s strictness weak.

Many players left PSL
This season, many foreign players have withdrawn from PSL despite their contracts. These include names like Gudakesh Moti, Johnson Charles, Dasun Shanaka, Blessing Muzarabani, Spencer Johnson, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Otneil Bartman, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Tymal Mills. The kind of controversies that have emerged even before the start of the tournament, make it clear that it is not going to be easy for the PCB to organize the PSL successfully this time.
