Most Filipino women view home and family as their primary role: survey
A a record 83%of women in the Philippines consider domestic life to be as fulfilling as a career, the highest level in 30 years, according to a recent survey.
The survey, released in early March to mark National Women’s Month by Philippine social research institution Social Weather Stations (SWS), said the public generally accepts traditional gender roles, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to GMA News77% of men and 73% of women told SWS they agreed that men should earn money while women should take care of the home and family.
About 75% of the women surveyed agreed with the statement, “A job is all right, but what most women really want is a home and children.”
Dr. Sylvia Estrada-Claudio of the University of the Philippines said labor force data helps explain the results, with women’s participation at 53.5% and men at 75.8% in 2025, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Congresswoman Sarah Elago said lifelong social conditioning teaches girls to focus on the home, while limited job opportunities and low wages push many toward unpaid household work.
“Care work by wives is framed as natural, within a system that limits women’s freedom,” she said.
