Bollywood movie ‘Namaste London’ released on 23 March 2007 completes 19 years today, 23 March 2026. Directed by Vipul Amritlal Shah, this romantic comedy-drama is still loved by the audience. But the most interesting thing is that Priyanka Chopra and Vivek Oberoi turned down the role, making Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif superstars. The film stars Akshay Kumar as Arjun Singh, a traditional Punjabi boy who teaches Indian culture to a modern Indian girl named Jasmeet (Jazz) living in London.

The role of ‘Jazz’ in ‘Namaste London’ was originally offered to Priyanka Chopra. According to several reports and information on social media, Priyanka was the first choice. However, for some reason, the role went to Katrina Kaif. Similarly, Vivek Oberoi was also signed for the film, but backed out saying the role was ‘too small’. Later, the role went to Upen Patel. Akshay Kumar later revealed that the film is based on a true story of a friend, which he narrated to the director.

Made on a budget of Rs 21 crore, ‘Namaste London’ grossed Rs 71 crore 40 lakh worldwide. Which had a net income of Rs 47 crore 29 lakh in India. The film was a huge success overseas, particularly in the UK and the US. It became the ninth highest grossing Hindi film of 2007.
