Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, refuted the reports of reducing the weight of gas cylinders. Information that any such proposal is under discussion is incorrect. People should not believe in rumours. It was also informed that at present the supply of gas is smooth and the amount of bookings has also come down to 50 lakhs. Meanwhile, reports have surfaced that oil companies have found a new way to avoid gas shortage in the country. According to official sources, domestic gas cylinders may start filling 10 kg of gas instead of 14.2 kg. It was said that such a proposal has been submitted to the government.

According to the companies, the range of supply can be increased by filling 4.2 kg less gas in each cylinder. That is, a cylinder that normally lasts 45 days in households will now last only 30 days. However, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum clarified that the news about reducing the weight of the cylinders are rumours.
