Sports News- New cricket league announced on the lines of IPL, know when the league will start
Friends, seeing the increasing popularity of T20 among cricket lovers, many countries have started T20 leagues. Inspired by the tremendous success of tournaments like the Indian Premier League, many cricket boards have started their own leagues to increase the reach and economic power of this game. Now, New Zealand Cricket has also taken a big step in this direction. They have announced a brand new franchise tournament. Let us know the complete details
New T20 league will replace ‘Super Smash’
New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that its existing domestic tournament, the ‘Super Smash’, will be replaced by a new franchise-based competition, the ‘NZ20 League’. This new competition will have six franchise teams, just like other popular T20 leagues in the world.
Each team will be owned by private investors or business groups, and will have a similar structure to the Indian Premier League.
The most important thing is that this league will not be limited to men’s cricket only. New Zealand Cricket has made it clear that women’s teams will also be a part of this tournament, which will guarantee the growth and equal opportunities for both men’s and women’s cricket.
A big announcement from New Zealand Cricket
Speaking about the project, New Zealand Cricket Chairperson Linden highlighted the board’s vision for this new competition. He said that the board wants to make some improvements to the NZ20 proposal, so that the domestic women’s T20 competition can also be fully included in this new league.
