There’s nothing better than a really delicious pasta dish—except maybe watching Stanley Tucci cook and enjoy a really delicious pasta dish. Whether it’s his mom’s garlicky broccoli rabe pasta or a quick weeknight bolognese, the The Devil Wears Prada 2 star is a treasure trove of amazing pasta recipes, many of which he shares on social media.

Tucci recently shared an Instagram reel about a super-simple pasta dish he can’t get enough of, and we’ve already noted the ingredients and made plans to try it in our own kitchen. In the clip, Tucci says he’s had a “craving for anchovies” lately, which led him to pull out the cookbook Wild Figs and Fennel by Letitia Clark, a collection of seasonal Sardinian recipes.

“It’s really simple,” Tucci says of the anchovy-garlic pasta dish he pulls from Clark’s cookbook. “Olive oil, garlic—sliced thinly—anchovies in there, toasted bread crumbs in a little olive oil, some fennel and some lemon zest and some chili pepper flakes.”

To make the recipe, Tucci starts by cooking down anchovies in olive oil until they’re soft and melty. Next, he stirs in the other ingredients. “This is gonna get… mixed up a little bit,” Tucci says. “And then I have bucatini, which are like very thick spaghetti but they have little holes in them.”

Tucci has his cooked pasta drained at set to the side—with a little pasta water saved in a mug, of course.

“We’re just gonna heat [the sauce mixture] up a little bit and put in a little bit of the pasta water that I reserved and we’re just gonna do this and toss it up,” the Tucci in Italy host adds. “Obviously, you’d make more of this if you’re gonna do the whole pound of pasta, which I’m not doing. You’re gonna add a little pasta water… and that all gets tossed up in there and then the bread crumbs go in like that, just so that it gets coated really nicely.”

The result is a lightly-sauced pasta dish with a bit of extra crunch mixed in, thanks to the olive oil-toasted breadcrumbs. As he tastes his finished product, Tucci is nearly speechless, minus a few well-timed “mmm”s.

“And that is that,” he says. “This is the perfect breakfast… That’s really good.”

What’s more, there’s more to love about this pasta dish than its short ingredient list and how easy it is to whip up. It’s also packed with lots of healthy ingredients, including canned fish, which can be economical as well as nutritious. (The fennel, garlic and lemon all add flavor and nutrients to this dish, too!)

And, because most types of pasta would be great for soaking up this olive oil-rich, garlicky, salty pasta sauce, the sky’s the limit when choosing a noodle shape. Yes, you could go with a bucatini like Tucci, but everything from tubular penne to delicate angel hair would be perfect mediums for the sauce.

It seems Tucci can always be counted on to share delicious pasta recipes, and we’re betting this tasty dish from Letitia Clark will be another favorite for our list of quick, weeknight pasta dinners to whip up on busy evenings.
