What is said in the letter?
- Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation i.e. IRCTC provides catering services in railway stations, platforms and trains.
- The Executive Director of Railway Board has written a letter to IRCTC. According to the news of NBT, in this letter it has been said that less fine should be imposed on the contractors.
- Fine or penalty will be imposed according to the quantity of food.
- Instead of imposing fines on contractors, they should be trained and warned if necessary.
When will the fine be imposed?
- Contractors will be fined only when there is an incident of food poisoning.
- A lot of complaints are coming in the same train.
- There is complaint of less food quantity. The method of serving food should be unhygienic.
- Apart from this, more is being charged for food.

What was the arrangement earlier?
- Earlier, the fine was imposed as per the catering policy issued on 14 November 2023.
- There were provisions for many types of penalties under this policy.
- For the first time, a fine of Rs 5000 was imposed on complaints of cold food, bad taste and late delivery of food.
- If the mistake was committed for the second time, a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed, for the third time it was Rs 15,000, for the fourth time it was Rs 20,000 and for more than that, a fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed.
