Military plane crashes in Colombia, death of 60+ soldiers creates stir
Bogota. A major military plane accident occurred in the South American country of Colombia on Monday, in which more than 60 people have been confirmed dead, while many others are still reported missing. At the time of the accident, there were a total of 125 people on board the plane, including a large number of soldiers.
According to the information, this accident occurred when the C-130 Hercules aircraft took off from Puerto Leguizamo in Putumayo province. The plane suddenly crashed just minutes after take-off. In the initial report, the local mayor had said that 34 soldiers had died, but later the Colombian Army confirmed the death of 66 soldiers.
According to media reports, more than 20 soldiers are missing after the accident, for whom a large-scale search operation is being conducted. The rescue operation was further complicated when the ammunition and explosive material on board the aircraft exploded, causing a fire and increased damage.
This aircraft was manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin. The C-130 Hercules aircraft dates back to the 1950s, which Colombia purchased in the late 1960s and is still being used to transport troops. Currently, an investigation into the cause of the accident has been started, while there is a wave of mourning in the entire country over this incident.
