Former Lieutenant General Masududdin Chaudhary arrested in Bangladesh, facing many cases including corruption and murder
News India Live, Digital Desk: Former Lieutenant General Masududdin Chowdhury, who was the most powerful face in the political and military history of Bangladesh during the period of political turmoil known as ‘1/11’, has been arrested by the Dhaka Police. In the early hours of Tuesday, 24 March 2026, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a major raid at his residence in Baridhara DOHS. Chaudhary is accused of corruption, money laundering and having a murder warrant in an old case. His arrest is being seen as a major campaign against ‘corruption’ by the current government of Bangladesh.1. Masooduddin Chowdhury was the ‘coordinator’ of the 2007 military-backed coup. He was the most effective military officer in the military-backed Caretaker Government of 2007-2008, which imposed a State of Emergency in the country. Major arrests: Chowdhury, as the head of the ‘National Coordination Committee for Serious Crimes’ formed during that period, arrested former Prime Ministers Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hundreds of the country’s top politicians and businessmen, including Hasina, were sent behind bars. Powerful GOC: In 2007, he was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the army’s vital 9th Infantry Division based at Savar and was considered closest to the then Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed. 2. Money Laundering: Recently, CID had registered a case of money laundering of about 100 crore taka (about 8.5 million dollars) against him. It is alleged that his company ‘Five M International’ ran a scam worth crores in the name of sending laborers to Malaysia.Murder warrant: According to sources, a murder warrant was also issued against him in an old case, on the basis of which this midnight raid was conducted.3.
