At a meeting in the US state of Tennessee on Monday, Donald Trump indicated that his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was the first person to push for military action. “Pete, I think you were the first person who talked about this, and you said, ‘Let’s do this, because you can’t let them get nuclear weapons,'” Trump told Hegseth, who was sitting next to him.

We are also calling this Trump’s new story because he has already given many reasons why and why did he start this war? Now from where he is seen distancing himself from it and pushing his Defense Secretary.

During a public event in Tennessee, the US President appeared to put the responsibility for the decision to launch military strikes against Iran on his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. During a meeting of the Memphis SAFE Task Force, Trump shared this information about starting the war. The remarks have drawn attention in Washington, where officials and analysts are debating who within the administration pushed for a US military operation against Iran.

Contradictory statements on the decision to go to war

Trump’s comments about how the decision to attack Iran was made add yet another to a series of shifting explanations coming from within his administration. Referring to the moment when this decision was taken, Trump said that he had called several senior officials before approving this operation.

He said that I called Pete. I called General Kane. I called many of my best people. He was talking about the discussion on whether to counter the growing threat from Iran or not. The war, which began with US strikes in late February, has now escalated into a major regional conflict. The attack on Iran has now hit America’s allies as well and ever since this war started, Iran has continuously caused and is causing harm to the other side. US officials had presented the campaign as an attempt to destroy Iran’s missile program, drone capabilities and naval strength.

What did Hegseth say?

Hegseth has played a key role in defending the war effort. He regularly briefs reporters at the Pentagon about U.S. military goals. He has also responded to criticism of the campaign and accused sections of the media of portraying the conflict negatively. When asked recently how long this military operation might last, Hegseth refused to give any time frame.

He said that we do not want to set any firm deadline. Also added that this mission is completely going in the right direction. Ultimately, Trump will decide how this will end?

Deadline extended, questions remain

Trump had set a deadline of Monday for Iran to fulfill his demands or face further attacks. Now that deadline has been extended by five more days. Between changing responses, refusal to negotiate and now new attempts to pin down responsibility, the narrative about the war is changing as fast as the battle itself. What has not changed is the uncertainty about how the war started. Where is it going, and who ultimately gets the decision to start it?
