Delhi Budget 2026: ₹2500 to women, Gig Workers Board, Green Delhi Plan
While presenting the budget of 2026-27, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has kept the capital’s development, environmental improvement and social security at the center. In this budget of more than one lakh crore, the government has clearly indicated that its priority is to make ‘developed and green Delhi’. 21% of the budget has been given to the health sector, while a provision of 18.64% i.e. Rs 19,148 crore has been made for education.
The special thing about this budget is that in this, special attention has been given not only to infrastructure, but also to the everyday needs of the common man and the gig workers associated with the new economy. Decisions like financial assistance of ₹ 2500 per month for women, free bicycles for girl students and welfare board for gig workers make this budget politically and socially important. Budget has been allocated for the scheme to provide financial assistance of ₹ 2500 every month to women. Apart from this, special provisions have also been made to provide free gas cylinders on Holi and Diwali and to make women ‘Lakhpati Didi’.

A budget of Rs 90 crore has been kept for providing free bicycles to class 9 girl students. Rs 19,148 crore has been allocated for education, which includes Rs 700 crore for new schools, smart classes, sports hostels and technical education.
What relief did gig workers get?
Resting spaces will be created for gig workers in Delhi, where they will be able to rest, eat and charge their mobiles. Also, a ‘Gig Welfare Board’ will be formed, which will solve their problems.
What scheme for auto-taxi drivers?
The government has announced the formation of ‘Auto-Taxi Driver Welfare Board’, which will work on the safety, facilities and rights of drivers.

A target of Rs 1,392 crore has been set for road development and construction of more than 700 km of roads. Barapula Corridor, Loni Road Underpass and many flyover projects will be completed rapidly.

To make Delhi green, solar energy will be promoted, solar panels will be installed on drains and there is a plan to reduce pollution through smog guns. A budget of Rs 3,942 crore has been kept for the power sector.

Rs 9,000 crore has been given to Delhi Jal Board. Big projects will be started to increase water supply, lay new pipelines and improve sewer systems.

Apart from 370 existing health temples, 770 new centers will be opened. Schemes like 9 critical care blocks, trauma center in GTB hospital and digital blood bank are included.
What budget for MCD and urban development?
For the first time, a huge allocation of Rs 11,600 crore has been made to MCD. Rs 800 crore has been given for the development of unauthorized colonies and more than Rs 7,000 crore has been given for urban development.

The government will work on startup policy and innovation ecosystem to make the youth not job seekers but job creators.
