Iran’s ‘hypocrisy’ exposed by a tweet, why anger erupted in India?

A recent incident on social media has created outrage in India. Many people believe that on one hand the Iranian Embassy is actively seeking donations for humanitarian aid from Indians, while on the other hand it is selectively accepting India’s sovereignty.

On March 22, 2026, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi made a post on The post particularly highlighted an emotional donation made by a Kashmiri widow; She had donated the gold jewelery she had saved as a memento since her husband’s death 28 years ago. The post concluded with these words: “Thank you #Kashmir. Thank you #India.” Pakistani users and trollers immediately reacted sharply on this matter. His argument was that it is not acceptable at all to consider Kashmir as a part of India. Within hours, the embassy deleted the original tweet. Subsequent posts mentioned the “kindness” and “pious feelings” received from Kashmir, but carefully avoided any mention of India, or simply expressed thanks. Critics also pointed out that the embassy later retweeted the charity’s content related to Kashmir, but did not mention India in it.

Meanwhile, the embassy has opened a special account in the State Bank of India. He has also shared account information and a QR code, and appealed to Indian citizens to donate generously.

This incident has further intensified the allegations of “double standards”. On one hand, Iran accepts economic and material help from Indians – including the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but when put under pressure, it appears reluctant to accept Kashmir as an integral part of India.

All this has happened in the background of the recent tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. India had to conduct several rounds of diplomacy to ensure the safe movement of its LPG tankers; Some of these tankers were initially stopped during this conflict.

In the Lok Sabha on March 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s consistent position: deep concern about the crisis, strong advocacy of de-escalation, opposition to attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, and complete rejection of any obstruction in international waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz. He confirmed that diplomatic efforts are continuing to ensure the security of Indian ships and their crews, and also placed special emphasis on energy security.

The dispute has sparked a new debate on India’s relations with countries that seek economic and humanitarian engagement with India but are hesitant to fully respect India’s territorial integrity.
