Pakistan tops world list for pollution, India has most polluted city, list released
Pakistan has been declared as the most polluted country in the world. According to an international survey report, the level of fine particulate matter PM2.5 in Pakistan’s air is 13 times higher than the safe limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO). In terms of country, Pakistan is at the top, but in terms of city, an Indian city is on top of this list.
Switzerland-based international organization IQAIR (IQAIR) on Tuesday presented the list of the world’s most polluted cities in 2025. The organization published the list after evaluating the air quality of 143 countries. It found that 130 out of 143 countries failed the air quality assessment. After Pakistan, which tops the list, Bangladesh is at the second position and Tajikistan is at the third position. On the other hand, the most polluted country in the world in 2024 was the West African country ‘Chad’. This year they have dropped to fourth place in the world rankings. The name of India is on the sixth place in the list.
Pakistan has been declared as the most polluted country in the world. The level of fine particulate matter PM2.5 in the country’s air is 13 times higher than the safe limit set by the World Health Organization.
According to the limit set by the World Health Organization, the air of the region is considered healthy if the PM2.5 value in the air is less than 5 micrograms per cubic meter. Only 13 countries in the world have been able to maintain this standard. The remaining 130 countries failed to meet this standard. Maharashtra’s Loni has emerged as the most polluted city in the world. The average level of PM2.5 in this city was 112.5 micrograms. Which is several times more than normal.
The second most polluted city is Hotan in China’s Xinjiang province. Air quality here is 109.6 micrograms. According to the report, the world’s 25 most polluted cities are all located in India, Pakistan and China. But the 13 countries that the agency says have healthy air quality are Australia, Iceland, Estonia and Panama. Countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia have made significant improvements compared to 2024.
