There is a continuous round of accusations and counter-accusations going on against each other. Meanwhile, there has been an uproar over BJP candidate B Gopalakrishnan’s statement of ‘Hindu MLA’. The opposition had protested against this and filed a complaint with the Election Commission, while the BJP called it just a comment.
Further action will be taken on the advice of the Election Commission
Giving information on the matter, Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala Ratan U Kelkar on Tuesday said that a complaint was received regarding Gopalakrishnan’s statement. Legal opinion on this has also been received from the Standing Council on Monday. On the basis of this, a report will soon be sent to the Election Commission and further action will be taken on the advice of the Election Commission.
Kerala BJP came to the rescue
After B Gopalakrishnan’s statement, Kerala BJP state president Rajiv Chandrashekhar was seen defending himself on Monday. He said that this should not be considered as hate language and this statement was not against anyone. He said that Gopalakrishnan was only saying that there is a need for a ‘confident MLA’ in the area for the issues of the devotees.
What is the whole controversy?
The controversy started with the election campaign. During the campaign, BJP candidate Gopalakrishnan had accused Congress and Left parties of not fielding Hindu candidates in Guruvayur constituency in the last almost 50 years. Congress and CPI(M) strongly opposed this statement of the BJP leader and complained to the Election Commission. After receiving the complaint, the Election Commission intervened in the matter and Guruvayur police took action and registered a case under BNS and Representation of the People Act.
