He himself lost to death, but gave ‘life’ to others! Harish Rana’s family set an example; Will brighten the world of others by donating cornea and heart valve

Harish Rana, who was in coma for 13 years, died on Tuesday. Recently the Supreme Court had given permission for euthanasia of Harish. After this, Harish was transferred from home to Delhi AIIMS and the process of euthanasia started there. Harisha breathed his last at 4.10 pm on Tuesday evening at Delhi AIIMS. After Harish’s demise, his family has set an example of humanity.

According to sources associated with AIIMS, important tissues like two corneas and heart valves of Harish Rana have been donated. This is being considered a big and inspiring step in the field of organ and tissue donation. Harish Rana’s last rites will be performed at Green Park crematorium in South Delhi on Wednesday morning. The Supreme Court had allowed ‘passive euthanasia’ i.e. removal of life saving equipment on humanitarian grounds. The court had said that dying with dignity is also a part of the right to life.

Let us tell you that the AIIMS administration had constituted a 5-member high level medical board for the case of Harish Rana. This team included senior doctors from palliative care, neurology, anesthesia and other important departments. The team was continuously monitoring the patient to ensure that he did not suffer physical pain in his last moments. A few days ago, Harish Rana was removed from nutrition support.

Harish Rana was in coma since 2013

Despite the court order, the medical board continued to review the patient’s condition every day. 31 year old Harish Rana was in coma since 2013. 13 years ago, a serious head injury devastated Harish’s world. During this period, the family not only suffered physical and mental suffering, but were also completely devastated financially. For Harish, seeking euthanasia was like a decision for his family to put a heart on a stone, so that his loved ones could be freed from the endless suffering that he was witnessing every moment.
