Zomato-Swiggy Platform Fee: Online Food Order Will Be Expensive; Big decision by Swiggy following Zomato’s footsteps
- A big decision for food delivery companies
- Swiggy follows in the footsteps of Zomato
- Swiggy raises platform fees
Zomato-Swiggy Platform Fee: As competition in the food delivery sector in India is intensifying Swiggy has increased its platform fees. The company has increased the per-order charge from Rs 14.99 to Rs 17.58 inclusive of GST. A few days ago Zomato It had also increased its platform fee from Rs 12.50 to Rs 17.58.
Platform Fee is a fixed fee charged on each food delivery order, which does not depend on the total cost of the order. So no matter how much the customer orders low or high cost food, the charge remains the same. It can be seen that these charges have been increasing steadily in the last few months. Interestingly, Swiggy had earlier hiked this fee from Rs 12 to Rs 14 in August 2025 as well, making it clear that the hike is being phased.

Due to this tariff increase, the share of small components in the consumer’s bill is increasing. While this amount may seem small in a single transaction, the cost can be significant for customers who regularly use food delivery services. Therefore, the customers are also expressing displeasure about this increase.
According to the companies, the increase in platform fees is to cover technical costs, app maintenance, distribution management and overall operational costs. They say companies have to invest heavily to provide customers with faster service, more options and discounts in the face of increasing competition.

Meanwhile, the timing of this tariff hike is also considered important. Because new competitors are emerging in the food delivery sector. In particular Rapido This ride-hailing startup has launched a new food delivery service called ‘Only’ in Bangalore. Therefore, competition in the market is likely to increase.
Overall, both the major companies Swiggy and Zomato increasing the platform fees will increase the cost of the customers and the possibility of other companies to take similar decisions in the coming time cannot be ruled out.
