Casting is not done only by face
Mukesh Chhabra said in an interview given to the media, ‘Casting is not just about choosing good looking people. Casting means finding the right person for the right role. Every film has its own world and actors are selected accordingly. Even if the character is small, the actor playing it should be strong, only then the film becomes effective.
Audition is the real test
According to Mukesh Chhabra, audition is the most important step for any actor. He said, ‘It is in the audition itself that it is known whether the actor is right for that role or not. Sometimes even big stars have to give tests, especially when the role is challenging. This is even more important for new artists, because this is their chance to prove themselves.
It’s not the star, it’s the character that matters.
During the interview, the casting director told an interesting thing that every time a star is not necessary for the film. He said, ‘Many times we choose actors according to the character and not the star.’ This is the reason why new faces are seen in many of his films, who later become big stars.

Rejection is also part of the process
Mukesh Chhabra also told that many actors get rejected during casting, but it does not mean that they are not good. He said, ‘Rejection does not mean that you are a bad actor, you just were not fit for that role.’ One should not be afraid of rejection, rather one should keep working hard.
Teamwork of director and casting director
He further said that the casting director does not take decisions alone, it is complete teamwork, in which the director’s thinking is most important. The casting director gives many options and then the director decides which actor is best for the role.
What did you say on the casting of ‘Dhurandhar’?
Mukesh Chhabra told that casting is the most challenging in films like Dhurandhar, because there is variety of characters in it. In such films, every role has importance, hence every actor is chosen very thoughtfully. However, the industry constantly needs new faces.
