Inter-Ministerial Briefing on West Asia: Amidst the ongoing tensions in West Asia (Middle East), the Government of India organized a detailed inter-ministerial press conference regarding the country’s energy security and the safety of Indian citizens stranded abroad. Senior officials of the Ministry of Petroleum, External Affairs and Shipping jointly clarified that there is sufficient stock of petrol, diesel and LPG available in the country and there is no need for panic buying.
The Petroleum Ministry said that LPG production in domestic refineries has increased compared to pre-crisis levels. The government has increased the allocation of commercial LPG to states to 50 percent, with priority being given to migrant workers and community kitchens.

Over 7,500 new PNG connections have been activated in the last 24 hours. Commercial consumers in major cities have been advised to shift from LPG to PNG. To stop hoarding and black marketing, 3,400 raids were conducted across the country and 642 FIRs were registered. So far, 33 states have constituted district level monitoring committees. The government reiterated that the stock of petrol and diesel is sufficient. To reduce crowding at retail shops, the public has been appealed to rely only on official information.
Relief news for India
Giving a big relief news, the Shipping Ministry said that two Indian ships loaded with LPG- ‘Pine Gas’ and ‘jug spring’ Successfully crossing the Strait of Hormuz and moving towards India. About 92,000 metric tonnes of LPG gas is loaded in these, which will soon reach New Mangalore and Kandla ports. At present, all Indian sailors present in the Persian Gulf region are safe and the DG Shipping control room is monitoring them 24’7.
4.02 lakh returned safely to India
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 4,02,000 Indian travelers have returned safely from the region since February 28. The air traffic situation is continuously improving. Non-scheduled flights from UAE and Qatar are continuing. Today 85 flights are expected from UAE alone. Due to closure of airspace in Kuwait and Bahrain, Indians stranded there are being brought via Saudi Arabia. Similarly, assistance is being provided to Indians present in Iran through Armenia and Azerbaijan. Foreign Minister US Secretary of State Had in-depth discussions on energy security and safety of the Indian community with Marco Rubio and ambassadors of Gulf countries.

Government’s appeal to common people
The government has requested citizens to conserve energy and use digital platforms for LPG booking. Also, the adoption of alternative means like electric induction cooktop for domestic use has been encouraged. This press conference has made it clear that despite global instability, India is fully prepared on the front of its internal order and security of foreign citizens.
